I bought this CD (MP3) without knowing much about it. I do not regret the purchase and it has become one of my favorite listening experiences when I need to relax. It is almost hypnotic, but not quite.Basically here is what you get.The first track is called the "Introduction". It last 30 minutes and is consist of David Ison speaking. He relates personal experiences dealing with pain management and meditation. He then goes into some of the basic principles of breathing, meditation, yoga, and witnessing. Witnessing is the skill of detaching yourself from personal emotions while simultaneously letting them surface. It is quite effective, but is a learned skill that takes practice. David's voice is very pleasant, slow, and soothing. He articulates each word crisply and his tone and reflection is used effectively. He obviously put a lot of thought and practice in how the message is delivered and it shows. While he is speaking the music is playing in the background.The second track is shorter and is called "Guided Meditation". The music now includes the guideposts that were not present in the first track. The guideposts allow you to time your breathing precisely. His voice is slower, more hypnotic. He doesn't speak continually as in the first track and uses silence with crafted precision. The message is more abstract but very comforting. The musical guideposts are punctuated with occasional highlighted emphasis. When these notes hit, the sincere listener can feel stress and anxiety literally leave the body. Is this hypnosis? Is it meditation? Both? At any rate, it works.The last track is 30 minutes once again and is nothing but the music. The listener can do nothing but time her breathing to the soothing rhythm and the guideposts. The emphasised notes are milestones and the pent-up stress in the body rises to the surface, is acknowledged, and then melts away.
