Rogers’ message is relevant today more than ever. As Christians, we should be standing out as good stewards of our health and bodies, because of God’s design for and instruction to us. I love the simplicity of God’s plan for life in Eden, which Rogers believes is that God created us to live on specific fuel, with physical activity and good relationships. He intended us to live with low stress and maintain good relationships. God cares about our whole person and wants us to be healthy.Rogers calls us out about our long prayer lists for the sick. There is so much we can do to obey God’s word about healthy eating and lifestyle that would prevent many people from being on the prayer list. God warned us of gluttony, hedonism and living for sensual pleasures. Do we mock God when we pray for wellness, but don’t make any effort to eat like He told us? We live and eat in hedonistic ways, and also pray for protection from its consequences. Many churches today focus on the sins of our beds and our wallets, but what about our plates? Rogers would call those “pet sins,” the ones we like to ignore. There are also physical consequences to an unhealthy relationship with food, and those are heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity.Rogers has studied the topic of health and nutrition in the Bible, as well as several crucial works by doctors who research the effects of plant-based nutrition on longevity, disease prevention and control. His Biblical references were insightful and approachable. He considers the physiological, theological, economical, and environmental perspectives of diet and Christian stewardship.Rogers is particularly inclusive in the last chapters of “Other issues and topics related to health.” He has done thorough study of medical research, which is available to all of us, and summarized them in the last quarter of his book. Uncommon topics like water filtration, body oils and lotions, vitamin B17, GMOs, cooking and microwaving, eating out, and risks of prescription drugs are all explored.I highly recommend The Eden Axiom be the next book in every Christian Bible study. As a Christian Health Coach, I immediately felt like it’s the exact book, word for word, I’ve been thinking about co-writing with my husband. I’m so glad this book has been written! I have read the Daniel Plan, Dr. Bob, and Joyce Meyer books, but they fail to include scientific research about animal protein, sugar, oil, and medications on heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, the top killers in the U.S. that Christians are facing too. When we go to God in prayer for these epidemics, let us also pray and look to His word at how we should be stewards of good health to prevent illness and disease. The Eden Axiom reminds us that God always provides His children with the perfect nourishment for our bodies to live and thrive into old age. What an awesome God!
